The World Tea Expo is the world's leading trade-show and conference where suppliers, vendours, and all those interested in tea get together. This year it took place in Long Beach, California from May 6-8. Of course, Purgo Tea made an appearance so we could meet with our suppliers and make sure that we are getting nothing but the best quality ingredients. We also couldn't miss out on being part of the largest gathering of tea nerds on the planet!
This post gives you a glimpse of what it looks like when a bunch of tea lovers from around the world unite in one hall. Hint, it smelled awesome!
The Best Bit The highlight of the event definitely had to be sitting at the table of Sara's Tea Caddie and being served a range of very high quality Japanese green teas. The best tasting (and most expensive at $700 per Kg wholesale) was a sampling of authentic "kiraka". This is a white leafed green tea from Shizuoka, Japan. Only 50 Kg is produced each year, making it very rare and desirable. It has a very unique earthy taste and has a really strong grass/seaweed tone.
Random Fact We got to sleep on a big ship! The Hotel Queen Mary is a decommissioned passenger carrier from the 1930s.
